Our team

After working at big firms together for a decade, we realized two things:
  • 1. We wanted to conduct business our way – without red tape and confining restrictions; and
  • 2. We make a really good father-daughter team. In 2018, we took a leap of faith and brought True North to life, so we could connect in a very real, authentic way with people on the financial decisions that mean the most.

Our story

True North Retirement Advisors is a firm in the Portland, Oregon area founded by David Wilson and Ashley Micciche, a father-daughter team with over 45 years collective experience in financial and retirement planning.

“What I’m most proud of is the fact that I still have clients with me from the very start of my career.”

David’s passion for finance was ignited in high school by a particularly gifted economics teacher. What began as an interest in the stock market led him to pursue a career in finance, first as a due diligence and financial analyst, then in 1982 as a financial advisor for A.G. Edwards & Sons. David spent over 25 years with A.G. Edwards until the firm was acquired by Wachovia and later Wells Fargo.

Ashley joined David in 2007 and together they moved their practice to Stifel Nicolaus in 2009.

David says what he is most proud of is “the fact that I still have clients with me from the very start of my career.” We have always worked hard to earn the trust of our clients and we recognized that in order to maintain that trust, we needed to evolve into a fully transparent, independent financial advisory business. That recognition led to the founding of our own firm in 2017.

Today, our specialty is comprehensive retirement planning services for business owners.

“I’m inspired by the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of my clients.”

David G. Wilson, Jr., MBA

Founder & President

David specializes in working with families and business owners as their personal “CFO” by creating and implementing a financial roadmap designated to help them pursue their goals.

He is fueled by integrity, objectivity and tireless enthusiasm; he has an incredible amount of energy and positivity that is infectious to those around him.

Ashley M. Micciche, QPFC®, CRPC®

CEO & Retirement Plan Specialist

Ashley specializes in qualified retirement plans like 401(k)s, Profit Sharing Plans, and Cash Balance Plans, and has earned both the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® and the Qualified Plan Financial Consultant® designations.

Ashley works with her business owner clients to help build and maintain successful retirement plans that recruit, reward, and retain good employees while controlling costs. Most importantly, her goal is to help maximize the number of employees who retire with adequate savings.

Ashley started her career as a financial advisor in 2007 after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance from Portland State University.

When Ashley joined David as a financial advisor in 2007, she jumped in with both feet. “My dad threw me to the wolves,” she laughs, explaining that she took on some complex clients right from the start. She noticed that the vast majority of financial planners offered a “something for everyone” service model, but very few specialized in the unique set of needs and challenges that business owners face. So she developed expertise in qualified retirement plans and earned both Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® and the Qualified Plan Financial Consultant® designations. Ashley continues to guide business owners in developing highly customized, successful retirement plans.

She and her high school sweetheart husband, Troy, are both Oregon natives and live in Happy Valley with their two young children and two stubborn dachshunds. In her free time she enjoys reading, running, and tries to sneak away to the golf course whenever possible.

Fun fact about Ashley: She holds the golf course record at Persimmon Country Club with a 64!

“I learned early on that what people really want is a reliable income stream, safety of principal and someone with integrity to monitor and advise them on investments.”

Doug is a Portland State alum, as are his two sons, Todd and Troy. Doug and his wife, Becky, reside in Happy Valley and are happy to be within walking distance of their cherished grandchildren, Keegan and Cameron. Mia Gray

Beloved Office Pup

Mia was found as a stray in the Houston, TX, area and was on death row at a local shelter when the staff realized what a sweet pup they had on their hands.  The local rescue groups were contacted in the hopes that a foster home could be found.  Three Little Pitties rescue answered the call for help and placed her with a wonderful foster mom.

Melissa had been in contact with Three Little Pitties searching for just the right addition to the family and gave the adoption coordinator a list of attributes she was looking for in a pup (a sweet, snuggly couch potato with good manners…and potty trained).  About a week later, was sent a video of Mia walking off-leash with her foster mom and a dossier of Mia’s personality, Melissa knew this was the one for her instantly.  The timing couldn’t be better!  As soon as her heartworm treatment was complete, she was on a van transport to the Pacific Northwest to start her next chapter.

Mia now enjoys a quiet life of naps and an occasional road trip – Target is her favorite place to go, but she’s up for a car ride anywhere as long as Melissa is behind the wheel.

Fun fact about Mia: Mia prefers a cozy place to snooze above just about anything else.
